Shipping in fandom has been around for as long as fandom has existed. Since the first examples of Star Trek from fiction to the rise of Archive Of Our Own, there will always be that impulse for fans to want to see some of their favorites kissing. Shipping is also something that still manages to be controversial, even though it's generally innocuous, causing shipping wars on the internet that are the subject of several long-form essays about them on YouTube. Fandom is supposed to be fun, and ultimately it always should be, so sea wars are definitely something that goes against the idea of actually enjoying fandom spaces.
Despite this, it's still fun to take a look at some ships and wonder how people ever got their heads around that a ship should exist. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a franchise with a fandom willing and happy to embrace absurdity of the highest order. Of course, this would certainly apply to some of the ships that exist in the series. While some of them are incredibly popular despite their strangeness, their creativity still has something to say. Live and ship, sure, but some manage to stand out.
JOJOLands Chapter 14 Review: “The Hawaii State Land Registry Office” Is Old-School Heist Joy
JOJOLands Chapter 14 kicks off a new heist that helps Dragona, Usagi, and Charming Man demonstrate their criminal skills.
ten Dio/Erina just feels gross in context
It's a ship that has one of the incredibly rare on-screen kisses in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure while also being one of the most disgusting. During Dio's early phases and Jonathan Joestar being brothers, he steals Erina's first kiss to stick it to JoJo. This is also an event that occurred in the 1800s, where such an act would have much more significance.
Although Dio/Erina isn't one of the most popular ships, it does exist in the universe. Sometimes it's part of a three-way arrangement with Jonathan, but it never seems like a good idea for anyone involved.
9 Rohan/Koichi makes Yukako look normal
While there's something to be said for being the only person a strange loner loves, this particular ship is strange in many ways. The age difference is probably the biggest, as Koichi is still in high school, but even beyond that, Rohan has a very strange fixation on Koichi in general. There's something that the little guy puts out into the universe that attracts incredibly strange and clingy people.
Rohan is also very well known as a manga artist, so a relationship like this could ruin him very quickly. There's also a lot of potential here for things to go wrong with Heaven's Door's powers and how liberal Rohan is in their useeven on people he considers allies.
8 Lisa Lisa/Kars Takes Haters of Lovers to a Gruesome Conclusion
This is a ship for those who have not seen the massive and glaring problems of Dusk Saga in terms of relationship. Enemies to lovers are by no means a bad trope and can be a real joy to play with, but this pairing is just a little too toxic for it to work.
Kars is, after all, by no means a traditional vampire. As one of the Pillar Men and the ultimate life form, his existence is anathema to Lisa Lisa's life purpose, and he shows no signs of regretting it. It doesn't even need to feed on humans, it seems, but rather it's something to take advantage of. Of course, that leg air guitar session was just to add insult to injury and that's just not cool.
25 Strongest JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stands, Ranked
The introduction of Stands revolutionized the world of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and some of them have enough power to rewrite reality itself.
7 Shipping one of the Stands together is the same as shipping Pokémon together
The stands are quite fun to look at and have various human shapes. However, shipping them to each other seems extremely strange. Their state of consciousness is quite questionable and has never been expanded upon, despite Araki's infamous drawing of the Stand dance party.
Stands exist as extensions of the user's soul and therefore do not truly have the ability to make their own decisions. With the exception of Sex Pistols and Echos Act Three, it's very unlikely that the Stands will recognize things enough to form their own opinions. This is like shipping empty dolls together. While this may be aesthetically pleasing, it doesn't make much sense.
6 Joseph/Avdol does not have the natural chemistry of Joseph/Caesar
Joseph Joestar, while not exactly the most loyal partner, seems to have something of a type. He also manages to have a lot of chemistry with those around him, based on his charisma, so it's not hard to imagine that Joseph could potentially wander off more than once.
While Avdol just stands there and ready for dispatch, Joseph/Avdol just doesn't have the natural chemistry that Joseph shares with characters like his long-lost Caesar or Suzy Q. This one is strange because the two characters just have better, more interesting options and their relationship seems to be primarily business.
5 Jotaro/Josuke is weird in more ways than just incest
Incest aside, this is a couple that lacks a certain amount of creativity. Protagonists of maritime transport within a series is quite common as they tend to be very developed as characters and also visually some of the most interesting. The impulse is logical, but the overall association is more than a little bizarre.
Josuke is Jotaro's uncle, just as Joseph is his father and Jotaro's grandfather. The Joestar family tree is already more than a little weird without the family tree looking like a circle. Jotaro is really more of a mentor to Josuke than anything else, and Josuke seems relatively uninterested in most of the romances.
10 anime techniques as iconic as Dragon Ball's Kamehameha
Kamehameha has lived in our brains rent-free for 40 years. Over time, anime techniques like Yusuke Urameshi's Spirit Gun have become just as iconic.
4 Diavolo/Doppio are the same person
Diavolo and Doppio have a sort of master-servant relationship that can definitely be full of sexual tension. But master and servant rarely inhabit the same body. While fandoms love Yu Gi Oh If we have long been able to prove that a single body is generally not a problem, it would certainly be a bigger problem here.
Diavolo is not a calm pharaoh voiced by Dan Green; he's a psychopath who wants to kill his own daughter. Or could it be Diavolo and Doppio's own daughter? This can get a little confusing, but it's definitely a weird question that requires a lot of mental gymnastics to make it entirely plausible.
3 DIO/Jotaro are the greatest enemies of blood
Enemies to Lovers is definitely enticing with a healthy dose of “what ifs”, but DIO/Jotaro just feels wrong. DIO, at this point, is the embodiment of evil with no remorse and no desire to ever be better. Basically, a DIO/Jotaro couple is incredibly toxic.
The tension between Jotaro and DIO is solely based on their intense hatred for each other and DIO's desire to wipe out the Joestar lineage. Their relationship is based solely on conflict and there seems to be nothing else.
2 Giorno/Abbachio are completely incompatible
Giorno is by far one of the most handsome JoJos considering the fact that he is DIO's child. It's one of the things the fandom picked on and used, making him the object of desire for much of the main cast. Abbachio does not escape this treatment but it is the one where it makes the least sense.
Abbachio never warms up in the same way that Fugo and Mista do with Giorno, and he is much more attached to Bruno as part of his story. For his part, Giorno never had many opportunities to form a relationship with Abbachio. This is just one of the few ships in Part 5 that seems a little too out of left field.
1 Iggy/Anyone: Iggy is a dog
Pairing Iggy with anyone shouldn't require much explanation. Iggy is a dog – a Boston Terrier, to be exact – and while he's a hyper-intelligent dog, that doesn't change the fact that he's a dog.
Sending someone with Iggy is odd, based solely on the fact that Iggy is a dog. Humanized versions aside, this one never looks good – nor should it.
