Author Jeffrey Spear has a background in design and marketing and has worked around the world for decades helping food producers develop marketing programs.
All of his exotic culinary adventures inspired him to write a book, “My Life in Gluttony: A Culinary Adventure” (2020 Florida Book Awards Gold Medalist).
Spear joined River City Live host Rance Adams to share details and a special recipe from the book.
“All my international travel really started about 20 years ago, but I said, 'No, I'm going to go back to my birthplace in Baltimore, Maryland, and talk about the exotic culinary encounters I had since I was a child.' ” Spear said.
The first, he said, involved a tuna noodle casserole when he was in the Boy Scouts. A culinary adventure in Malawi involved a grilled mouse.
“They eat it like jerky,” Spear said.
He shared a Russian recipe with us on RCL. Watch the video above to learn more.
Spear will describe his adventures, as well as some insights into the culinary history of the First Coast, from 14,000 BC to 1821, at the Beaches Museum in Jacksonville Beach on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.beachesmuseum.org/upcoming_events.
