Among a recently refreshed lineup, Austin-based MOD Bikes introduced the latest version of its full-suspension adventure electric bike. The Black model features full squish, fat Kenda tires, 28 mph pedal assist, and up to 100 miles of range with dual battery.

Among the just-announced 2024 model lineup, there's a funky cruiser and sidecar combo in army green plus one variation in an Easy Rider atmosphere and one electric cargo bike. But we're embracing our wilder side and taking a closer look at a fat-tire adventure bike simply called the Black.
The e-bike features a 750W MOD Drive rear hub motor that peaks at 1,000 watts and comes as a Class 2 e-bike for pedal assist/throttle up to 20 mph. But it can be unlocked for a speed of 28 mph (45 km/h) in class 3 on road or dirt. Either way, you get five PAS levels and responsive torque sensing.
The removable 720Wh UL-certified Li-ion battery in the downtube is made from Samsung cells and provides up to 50 miles of range per charge, although the Black can be fitted with a second battery for more range . between refills.
The adventure bike is built around a one-size-fits-all 6061 aluminum frame that can accommodate riders from a height of 5.3 feet (1.625 m) up to approximately 7 feet (2.13 m). It comes with a nifty clip-on rear rack for carrying up to 65 lbs (29.5 kg) of gear into the wilderness, plus a front quick-release rack for mounting a basket or rack (sold separately), and there are numerous mounting brackets. points scattered around the frame for other accessories.
Absorbing rougher terrain is the task of the Mozo suspension fork with 50 mm of travel, preload and lockout as well as a seat post shock for 40 mm of travel. The chain-drive e-bike also offers riding flexibility in the form of a Shimano Altus 7-speed derailleur. It rides on road and dirt on 27.5-inch rims fitted with 3-inch wide Kenda multi-terrain tires, with stopping power provided by dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes equipped with 180mm rotors .
A color display in the center of the low handlebar allows for quick status checks on the go, and a USB port is included to keep mobile gadgets charged, too. Usefully, the driver can connect wirelessly to a Lumos Smart Helmet (not included) for turn signals from the e-bike control panel β the setup will even turn off the helmet when the e-bike is turned off.
Key features are rounded out by a 300 lumen wide beam LED headlight and rear brake light, ergonomic leatherette grips and a Selle Royal leatherette saddle, as well as a sturdy side stand.
The MOD Black has a suggested retail price of US$3,499 (for single-battery configuration), but can currently be pre-ordered for $2,999. Shipping is expected to start from June 15. The video below has more.
