NEW YORK (WABC)– The holiday season is just weeks away and if you're considering hitting the roads, rails or skies, experts say the ideal booking window is now.
Travel expert Katy Nastro joined Eyewitness News with some tips to help travelers get the most bang for their buck.
When to book your trip:
The most ideal time to book your winter getaway is during the summer months, according to Nastro. Although most people don't think about winter during the height of summer, booking a trip months in advance will help alleviate some of the financial pressure of booking closer to a travel date. journey.
“Take advantage of some deals still available, like New York to Los Angeles, if you have friends and family there. $283 round trip, so less than $300, which is a good price,” said Nastro.
Travel windows to avoid:
When it comes to holidays like Thanksgiving, experts suggest travelers avoid certain dates.
Nastro highlighted the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving as bad travel days.
“These are generally, on average, the most expensive and busiest. As well as this Sunday after the Thanksgiving holiday. This is, according to the TSA, the busiest day of the entire year,” a- she added.
Nastro said the best travel results typically come to those who are more flexible with dates. She also suggested traveling during the holidays to save on airline prices.
Ideal vacation destinations:
While many travelers are using this time to reconnect with family back home in Turkey, others are looking for destinations that could offer an alternative to typical holiday celebrations.
According to Nastro, Thanksgiving week is the ideal time to travel abroad.
“You can enjoy your turkey dinner and then fly to, say, New York to London for just $393 round trip. Even cheaper: Paris. $365 round trip and that's on airlines full-service restaurant that you can take advantage of,” she says.
