If you're looking for something to sink your teeth into this weekend (sorry), you could do a lot worse than check out developer Stunlock Studios' acclaimed vampire survival adventure. V on the rise – which is playable for free on Steam for the next few days.
V Rising launched in May after two years of development in Early Access on Steam, offering players (and their equally stylish friends) a rich and deeper isometric survival game where the goal is to assert your vampiric superiority across a dark and gothic open world.
There are a bunch of interesting twists on the survival formula, all playing into the vampire set thing – including a blood-sucking mechanic that grants you specific abilities based on the creatures you drain, and progression that involves staying in the shadows during daylight hours (lest you burn to ashes). Its most exciting feature, though, is that you can build your own imposing gothic castle – and who hasn't wanted one of those?
“V Rising is one of the most generous crafting-survival games I’ve played,” wrote Eurogamer’s Robert Purchase in his review 4 stars out of 5 last May, “and at every turn, it finds a way to fulfill the vampire fantasy I came for. There's no escaping the inherent crafting and Gear Score grind present, of course, but there are ways to tone it down — and there's enough imagination and depth to keep you interested in it.”
And if any of the above made you curious, V Rising is free to download and play on Steam until Monday, September 16 at 5pm UK / 10am PST – after which, he gracefully falls back into his coffin and you'll have to pay to continue playing. If you're sufficiently impressed, though, there's currently 30% off V Rising and 20% off its cosmetic DLC (including its Castelvania Themed Premium Pack) until September 24.
