The United States Department of State issues a global travel warning for Americans due to increased tensions around the world.
Global caution is prompting travelers to be more aware of potential terrorist attacks and violence against Americans.
International travelers at Raleigh-Durham International Airport told WRAL News Friday that global caution is a priority when heading abroad.
The US State Department's notice reads:
“Due to increased tensions in various regions of the world, the potential for terrorist attacks, protests, or violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests, the Department of State advises U.S. citizens abroad to exercise due diligence. 'increased caution.'

On Friday, RDU flights were leaving for Canada, Iceland, France and England, and other local travelers were heading to cities like New York and Washington, D.C., to catch other international flights.
Several travelers told WRAL News their trips had been planned for months, if not more than a year. In some cases, they have already received other travel advice for their destinations.
Although they don't plan to cancel their trip, travelers said the alert will make them more cautious when outside the country.
“It made me less likely to want to venture out… (and more likely to) just stay with the group in tourist areas, which is what prudence says we do,” said international traveler Hilary Campbell.
WRAL News spoke with several travelers who said they were headed to the Middle East and because of previous travel alerts, they had already enrolled in the STEP program to help the Department of State locate them in an emergency.
