TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The holiday season is here, which makes Tallahassee International Airport full.
Overall air traffic is also up at TLH year-on-year, with the airport expecting to receive one million passengers through its terminal in 2024.
Vanessa Spaulding, TLH Deputy Director of Aviation, shared some tips for holiday travel.
The Travel Security Administration (TSA) has a program to help people with disabilities get through the security line. Just call (855) 787-2227. With the addition of updated machines, travelers no longer need to take items out of their bags and place them on the roller.
If you plan to bring sauce through security, it counts as liquid. All liquids must follow TSA rules.
And if you're thinking about Christmas a little early, don't bring presents when you go through security. Spaulding says TSA agents may have to unpack them before your loved ones.
Spaulding said there is a different vibe in the air at TLH this time of year.
“It’s really exciting. It’s really great to see all this activity during the holiday season at TLH,” she said. “We see a lot of families (and) a lot of military personnel coming through the airport. We're really excited.
Passenger numbers at Tallahassee International Airport continue to rise, despite JetBlue departs from the airport in July. JetBlue suspended services due to underperformance and lack of customer demand, according to JetBlue's corporate communications team.
More news from Tallahassee:
In October, more than 88,000 passengers flew at TLH, an increase of 6,000 people passing through the terminal compared to October last year.
TLH sees between 20 and 30 departures and arrivals each day.
“We are working very, very hard to just increase our air traffic numbers. We have a great team at the airport and we are constantly working to recruit new air services and increase the frequency and destinations of air services,” Spaulding said.
TLH also increased its total cargo when comparing October 2023 to 2024. Nearly two million pounds are landing on the tarmac.
Reliability has been strong as the holiday travel season begins. According to the US Department of Transportation statisticsalmost 90% of flights arrive on time. Only about 1% are canceled outright.
However, airport traffic has not reached a record level. Spaulding said that in 2007, four major airlines operated from TLH.
According to the Tallahassee Office of Economic Vitalitythe number of monthly passengers reached 113,000 in March 2005.
While still down from that figure, the data shows monthly passenger numbers have rebounded from just 3,000 in April 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
