It was funny because I asked a man what my dowry would be, and he said, ‘30 cows at the most,’ which is not a lot. Even though I am 1.70m tall, in South Sudan I am very small.”

For Nabongo, South Sudan’s turbulent history didn’t stop her from exploring the country. “I’m very curious and I really enjoy new experiences, so I just wanted to see what they were like,” she told Flash Pack. “I try to go to places with an open mind. There weren’t any that I was afraid to visit because I’m not afraid of people, most people are nice. No country in the world is completely safe or dangerous.”
