Booking sites have been busy examining what travelers did this year to see which travel trends will dominate in 2025.
While some vacation habits never seem to go out of style, like city breaks and summer sun, each year seems to bring a new craze and plenty of buzzwords to boot.
For 2025, vacation experts have listed “JOMO trips” and detour destinations among their predictions.
Here's what's going to be big next year.
Solo male travel is on the rise
According to transport booking site Omio, we will see a slight increase in the number of solo male travelers in 2025.
“From self-discovery to mental empowerment, from independence to self-confidence, traveling alone has many benefits,” the company says.
“For several years, the trend has been heavily led by womenBut we will soon see an increase in the number of solo male travelers, with 30 percent of men compared to 23 percent of women planning a solo trip in 2025.”
Omio found that male travelers are also planning big-budget trips, with 28% intending to spend more than €2,400.
Detour destinations will be popular
Booking site Expedia predicts that next year, travelers will not only visit the tried-and-true tourist destinations, but also add detours.
The company emphasized destinations near popular hotspotsmaking them ideal day trips.
Expedia's trending detour destinations for 2025, based on an increase in searches, include Reims as a detour from Paris, Brescia like a detour from Milan and Girona like a detour from Barcelona.
There will be a renaissance of hotel restaurants
When booking hotels, travelers aren't just booking rooms, they're also booking dinners, according to reservation site Hotels.com.
Hotels around the world have opened critically acclaimed restaurants with Michelin star chefs and rotating seasonal menus to attract guests.
Travelers are looking to stand out hotel culinary experiences; positive reviews of hotel restaurants, chefs and bars increased 40% annually on Hotels.com.
Additionally, almost a third of UK travelers say restaurant tables reserved exclusively for hotel guests would make them more likely to book, while one in five say room service at a hotel restaurant famous hotel would be their main reason.
JOMO travel will beat FOMO
According to the booking site Vrbo, in 2025, travelers will be less afraid of missing out (FOMO), instead adopting JOMO – the joy of missing out.
“Traveling with JOMO is about doing less on vacation to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and staying in cozy chalets or peaceful beach houses to promote relaxation and reconnection,” the company explains.
Two thirds of UK travelers say these types of trips reduce stress and anxietyand nearly half say it provides a sense of escape from daily responsibilities.
The best way to experience JOMO travel is to stay in a charming beach house, secluded lakeside lodge, or rustic country farmhouse.
Top vacation rental amenities sought by JOMO travelers include tranquil gardens, swimming pools, hot tubs, and porches with views.
Travelers will check off their list of phenomena
Data from the Vrbo survey revealed that the Northern Lights are the top phenomenon British travelers want to see, followed by geological phenomena like volcanoes, geysers and hot springs.
Two thirds of UK travelers say it is important to stay somewhere with stunning views of these natural wonders, favoring private holiday homes in remote or rural destinations.
According to Vrbo, the main natural phenomena Travelers will want to have front-row seats in 2025, including the migration of 'black sun' starlings in Denmark's Wadden Sea National Park, the murmurations of starlings in the Somerset countryside in the UK and the volcanoes, Lava fields and black sand beaches in Iceland's Reykjavík region.
