Some things are best done alone. While traveling is often presented as something to do with your partner, friends, or family, traveling alone has some real advantages. If you book a solo trip to Singapore in April, you know it's going to happen and you won't have to listen to excuses from people who shirk their plans. Plus, you won't have to worry about whether your travel companion is having fun or explain yourself if you want to change plans at the last minute. The appeal is real: According to one Recent report from Kayak and OpenTable50% of Americans plan to travel alone this year.
But where are all these solo travelers going? Some destinations are best for solo travelers than others, but there are a lot of things to consider when designating a place “solo travel friendly” — including safety and cost. Luckily, the team at Kayak used their data to determine which destinations get good hotel ratings from solo travelers and where things like flights and accommodations won't break the bank.
At the very top of the list is Berlin. Kayak gave the German city a 100% rating for solo travel, recommending it for those interested in history, street art, and techno clubs. Berlin also scores highly for things like the cost per meal ($31) and the average price price per night hotel ($168). The city also has a large number of museums, concert halls and theaters, meaning you'll have plenty to do.
Second on the list is Vancouverwhich is a great choice for those living in the Pacific Northwest. (The Canadian city is a three-hour drive from Seattle, so you don’t have to worry about airfare.) Kayak gave Vancouver a 90% rating for solo travel, recommending it to those interested in adventure, nature, and craft beer. The city stood out for its average hotel rating for solo travelers, relatively low per-meal spend ($35), and perceived safety.
