RICHMOND, VA (CITY RIGHT NOW) – More than 71 million Americans travel – including more than 2 million Virginians – for the Fourth of July, and the top destinations are the West and Europe. According to Morgan Dean of Triple-A MidAtlantic, about 90% of them travel by car…and 7% by plane. The top five domestic destinations in the country are Seattle, Washington; Orlando, Florida; Anchorage, Alaska; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Miami, Florida. Dean says the West Coast is especially popular because of Alaska cruises, and Honolulu is always a popular destination.
Popular international destinations include Vancouver, B.C., London, Rome, Dublin and Paris. Europe is always popular in the summer, Dean says, because that's when people stay for extended periods.
