Every time a new Star Wars series comes out, we learn something new about the galaxy far, far away. In the trailer for Star Wars: The Skeleton Crewthe family adventure coming out in December, tells us that space, apparently, has suburbs. And they look exactly like our Earth suburbs! They seem designed for cars, just like our Earth suburbs! I just don't see why you would inflict these choices on a whole other planet, let alone a whole other galaxy.
But, in the grand tradition of many curious children raised on a street where all the houses look the same, at least one of the four youngsters on Skeleton Crew thirst for adventure, which they find through a curious trapdoor in the ground. It is not, as one might guess, a lost Jedi temple, but a spaceship that is taking them to a faraway place. Things get complicated and they meet a space owl in a glorious cape; I think the space owl should perhaps be the star of this series.
Instead, we have Jedi Jude Law, who only makes a brief appearance at the end of this trailer and, to be honest, he looks pretty impressive; he has this very serious but also rather smiley Jedi face. Law's character is called Jod Na Nawood; the kids he ends up with in a space prison are Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), KB (Kyriana Kratter), Neel (Robert Timothy Smith) and Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong). Their reluctant new droid friend, SM33, is voiced by Nick Frost.
Skeleton Crewwhich takes place in the same post-Return of the Jedi period of time like The Mandalorianis created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford. Its eight episodes were directed by a group of renowned directors: Daniels (Everything everywhere at once), David Lowery (The Green Knight), Lee Isaac Chung (Tornadoes), Jake Schreier (Beef) and Bryce Dallas Howard (The Mandalorian). The series also stars Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Tunde Adebimpé (TornadoesTV on radio).
The adventure begins on December 3.
