Want the freedom to explore at your own pace? A car trip could be the perfect vacation for you.
Car travelers will see a lot more of their destination and it's also a great bonding experience for family and friends.
If you're looking for a budget vacation this year, there's an incredible road trip itinerary that covers three countries and won't break the bank.
Start the trip in Lithuania before crossing Latvia to Estonia. All three Baltics are affordable destinations for Brits hotels offered for less than £30 per person, per night in each country.
This road trip begins in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, although tourists can attempt the route in either direction. While in Vilnius, take a stroll through the Old Town or visit the KGB Museum.
From Vilnius, head to Kaunas, the second largest city in Lithuania. The city is home to a curious Devil's Museum and many of its buildings are listed as UNESCO heritage sites.
After Kaunas, visit Palanga, one of the main Baltic resorts in Lithuania. The beach has golden sand and there is also a nice pier.
Make another coastal stop, but this time across the border into Latvia. Ventspils has a lovely old town, so spend an afternoon wandering its cobbled streets.
From Ventspils, it's about a two and a half hour drive to Riga, the capital of Latvia. Don't forget to visit the city's food hall and admire its Baltic architecture at the Maison des Têtes Noires.
Riga is also close to Jurmala, one of Latvia's best resorts and a budget beach choice for Brits.
Head to Tallinn from Riga or stop off at Parnu, an Estonian seaside resort en route. If you decide to head straight to Tallinn, it takes just under four and a half hours by car.
Tallinn has perhaps the most beautiful old town of the three Baltic capitals and don't forget to admire the view from Toompea Hill. If you want to continue your trip, Stockholm and Helsinki are both accessible via a cheap ferry.
All three countries use the Euro and British tourists must display a British sticker if they drive their own vehicle in the Baltic States.
