The eye-catching images offer a glimpse of what the Imagineers have in mind. For example, they show a magical boat ride through a glowing blue-purple Pandoran rainforest and a majestic Tulkun sea creature bursting out of the green water, to the surprise of the ride's passengers.
This soon-to-be-built section of California Adventure's sister park will be based not only on “Avatar” and “Avatar: Waterfall,” but will also be filled with characters, creatures and locations from the upcoming “Avatar: Fire & Ashes” and later “Avatar” films, which are expected to be released every two to three years.
“This thrilling new ride will deliver all the action, excitement and wonder of Avatar, and will take guests to the vast seas of Pandora,” Disney CEO Al Rubinstein said in an official Disney Parks release. “It will be a dynamic, intense and emotional experience on a grand scale that we know our guests will love.”
Concept art can be a tricky proposition. It is designed to give an artist a general impression of what the envisioned project might look like; the final product will likely be altered, rearranged, and scaled down dozens of times from its initial, grand conceptual form, which is meant to elicit maximum emotional response and plenty of “oohs and aahs.”
While Disney's expansion plans are finalized, budgets are funded, permits are approved and this bold California construction project begins, “Avatar” fans can still immerse themselves in this lush world by visiting Walt Disney World Resort's “Pandora: The World of Avatar,” located inside Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida.
