Dig Deeper:
- The resort-style attraction will feature a rooftop pool, wedding event spaces and a sandy beach.
- Lounge areas and cabins with catering services will be connected to the surf lagoon.
- The lagoon will feature activities like cliff diving and a stationary surf wave.
- Surrounding amenities will include a skateboard park, movie theater, bowling alley, health club and indoor recreation facilities.
Cannon Beach opened its first location earlier this month in Mesa, Arizona.
Why it's important:
The development is expected to create more than 700 local jobs and generate more than $2 billion in economic impact in North Texas over the next 20 years.
Around 300,000 visitors are expected each year.
It will be the first surf park accessible to residents of North Texas; the closest existing facility is in Waco.
What they say:
Developer Cole Cannon said the project would “literally bring the ocean to his backyard,” according to a City of McKinney news release.
This family destination should appeal to professionals, entrepreneurs and families.
