Here are some tips to save you time and money before you fly.
THE Sacramento International Airport forecasts that 1.2 million passengers per month will pass through the airport from June to August, which would be a record. More than 13 million travelers are expected this year.
Airport spokesman Scott Johnston said new nonstop service is being started from Sacramento. Service to Kona and Kauai begins this month, you can fly nonstop to Detroit starting in July, and you can find seasonal flights to Baltimore between June and September.
With Memorial Day weekend approaching, coupled with a busy summer of travel, Johnston advises giving yourself plenty of time to get to the airport before your flight.
“Before you go out, check the parking app on our website. We also strongly encourage you to take a rideshare or have a friend or family member come and take you to the airport. This will make even easier things, it falls you come to the door immediately,” Johnston said.
If you're thinking about booking tickets for this summer, Expedia travel expert Christie Hudson says now is the time to do it.
“Expedia data shows that the sweet spot is between 21 and 60 days before your trip, whether you're going abroad or somewhere closer to home, and it saves about 15% on tickets plane,” Hudson said.
Hudson says traveling early in the week, on a Monday or Tuesday, could save you money. Additionally, these are the least busy days for traveling.
She says the last week of June through the first week of July is the busiest and most expensive time to travel this summer. Hudson says if you wait to travel between mid and late August, you'll likely see better prices.
According to Expedia, some of the top destinations for this summer include London, Japan, and beach destinations in Mexico or the Caribbean. Paris will also be very busy thanks to the Olympic Games.
