By Lynn Jones – Travel agency owner Ty Moore has traveled across the United States, visiting nearly all 50 states! From the East Coast to the West Coast, the Jacksonville, Florida native and Wolfson High School graduate is on a mission to bring women from all walks of life together to travel on a budget. So, Ty created the Girls Trips on a Budget (GTOAB) Facebook group for women to come together and bond over traveling the world together. “Most of the women I know are trying to save money, because I’m always trying to save money. Every time I travel, I travel on a budget,” Ty said. In over 20 years, Ty’s travel agency has booked over two hundred trips for her clients to travel the world.
Sitting with friends, discussing numerous travel bookings, the idea for the GTOAB light bulb came and in about 60 days, the GTOAB social media page was receiving over 10-15,000 likes per day and had accumulated 400,000 followers – wow!! Since creating the page two months ago, Moore has hired ten administrators to screen the site for downloads, scams and membership options.
With chapters now formed in all 50 states, the Jacksonville Facebook group recently met at Copeland's house. www.copelandsjax.com/restaurant on the Southside to network, discuss upcoming vacation spots to visit, travel agent options, who went where and when, text groups, Zoom call meetings and next steps for group brainstorming.
GOATB member Regina Spain, a military veteran and avid traveler, took the initiative to go ahead and organize the meetup. “I took the initiative to go through the women’s schedules and organize the meetup to get us started. I was excited to see the women in the Facebook group,” Spain said. Over 20 women showed up and introduced themselves, proudly showcasing their travel tours/excursions, ready to formulate new travel friendship opportunities and budget travel preferences. “We had a great time meeting new people and deciphering our travel destinations and schedules. I’m ready for our next budget girls’ trip,” said new member Cookie Robinson.
