Move over to Amazon Prime Day. Skyscanner, a leading global booking site, has revealed the top travel trends, what people are looking for in 2025 and the best value for money destinations.
In its latest report, which blends proprietary data based on millions of searches and a survey of more than 20,000 travelers, Skyscanner revealed that the top travel trends for 2025 include: deeper connections and a sense of community through collective discovery, and shared adventures.
Over the past 12 months, Skyscanner found that the 10 destinations with the most significant increase in searches among US travelers were:
- Grand Turk Island, Turks and Caicos Islands, +528% increase in searches
- Quepos, Costa Rica, +462% increase in searches
- Tromso, Norway, +129% increase in searches
- Province of Tucuman, Argentina, +113% increase in searches
- Krabi, Thailand, +77% increase in searches
- Luang Prabang, Laos, +75% increase in searches
- Antwerp, Belgium, +70% increase in searches
- Suva, Fiji, +70% increase in searches
- Rotterdam, Netherlands, +61% increase in searches
- Pago Pago, American Samoa, United States, +53% increase in searches
“We are seeing an evolution in travel that reflects a deeper, more personalized approach to exploration. While cultural immersion remains important, travelers are increasingly seeking experiences that closely align with their personal interests or even niche passions,” Laura Lindsay, global travel trends expert at Skyscanner, told Travel Black.
She adds: “Americans are striving to reconnect with nature. Whether it's relaxing on a serene beach, hiking mountain trails, or spending nights stargazing under the open sky, getting back to nature is becoming a key theme for travelers.
What travel experts have called travel dupes and even “second citiesare also on travelers' minds for 2025, and more people are looking to explore beyond the mainstream in the Americas and abroad.
When it comes to travel inspiration, the report reveals that people are influenced by social media, television, movies, word of mouth and other online platforms.
The 10 Best Destinations for American Travelers
The destination with the largest drop in airfare prices from the United States over the past year includes:
- Nice, France, -27% price drop
- Castries, Saint Lucia, -25% price reduction
- Bridgetown, Barbados, -24% price drop
- Rabat, Morocco, -24% price drop
- Fargo, North Dakota, United States, -24% price drop
- San Jose, California, United States, -23% price drop
- Charlotte, North Carolina, United States, -22% price drop
- Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, -19% price drop
- Amsterdam, Netherlands, -19% price drop
- Barranquilla, Colombia, -19% price drop
Apart from cost, what also makes these destinations “best value destinations” is that they offer value for money options in accommodation, activities, food and drinks. According to Skyscanner experts, Barranquilla is an excellent and affordable base for exploring other nearby attractions, including the beaches of Santa Marta or historic Cartagena. Saint Lucia is known for its natural landscapes. Many are free or inexpensive to explore. Meanwhile, choosing a less touristy destination, like Rabat over Marrakech, offers authentic products at better prices in local souks.
“Travelers are increasingly focused on shared and collective experiences,” says Lindsay. “It’s no longer just a question of destination. It's about the community and the shared moments that make the trip unforgettable. Americans seek experiences that allow them to interact with others, creating memories enriched by the people they meet along the way.
