Six Flags Great Adventure is set to unveil its fifteenth roller coaster this summer as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The new ride, called “The Flash: Vertical Velocity,” will open this summer. park officials told NJ.com.
The park opens for the season the weekend of March 16 and will operate daily from March 28 to April 7 during spring break.
No official date has yet been announced for the ultra-tall roller coaster's debut.
The Flash will send racers along two U-shaped steel tracks at speeds of 70 mph in less than 4 seconds out of the gate, the park said on its website.
Riders will spin a 185-foot corkscrew before backtracking toward the station toward a second 185-foot vertical tower. He will do this circuit 2.5 times, going up the twisted side three times and the right side twice.
The ride covers 2,700 feet of track in just 45 seconds.
“As you speed through the center and climb vertically, you're moving so fast you feel like you're about to blast off into space,” boasts the park's website. “Breathe before you go back down that waterfall. It's like launching a completely vertical free fall in the middle of a roller coaster.
The theme park also features the Savannah Sunset Resort and Spa, scheduled to open June 14.
Other new additions park-goers can expect are a new treehouse structure with children's slides at Splash Island and several new retail stores.
Other parts of the parks, including some restaurants, are also undergoing renovations.
“Whether it's a guest's first visit or their fiftieth visit, everyone, regardless of thrill level, will discover new attractions, enhanced park features, exciting events and highlights nostalgic within our resort destination,” park president Brian Bacica told NJ.com.
