Spring break for Caddo and Bossier Parish schools is less than a week away and travel is on everyone's minds.
The Shreveport Times spoke with Mark Crawford, marketing and public relations manager for the Shreveport Airport Authority, to discuss flights and travel tips.
Crawford said travel is up, with Shreveport Regional Airport seeing fuller planes. The industry average for aircraft capacity is 83%, but in February, Shreveport recorded an aircraft full ratio of 91%.
“That hadn’t been the case well before the pandemic,” Crawford said.

Shreveport Regional Airport offers four airlines to seven major destinations.
With spring break just a week away, Crawford said flights are filling up.
For example, the best value is flying to Las Vegas via Allegiant, with fares around $130 per person. Currently, these planes are 70% full.
“As time passes, they will only increase,” he said.
With skiing being a popular spring break trip, Shreveport Regional Airport also offers daily nonstop flights to Denver on United Airlines.
“It’s once a day, every day,” Crawford said.
“We are always very grateful when people choose to make Shreveport Regional Airport part of their spring break travel, and we want to make sure everyone has a great time during their stay,” he said. he adds.
Here are some tips he recommended for travel days:
- If you are flying Delta, American or United, arrive at the airport at least one hour before departure.
- If you are traveling with Allegiant, arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure.
“We want to make sure everyone gets to their final destination,” Crawford said.

Exciting news for the airport
Denver's flight will soon offer first-class seats with larger planes, starting in May.
“We've been flying nonstop to Denver for 12 years now and we've always asked for a bigger plane,” Crawford said. “So we’re excited about that.”
Also in May, Allegiant will roll out its summer seasonal fare to Destin and Orlando, Florida. These routes start on May 31.
