DPS Sgt. Harold Mallory joined us in the first edition with information people should be aware of before hitting the road this weekend.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Memorial Day means family fun for many people who will enjoy a well-deserved three-day weekend.
This also means many people will be driving on Coastal Bend highways.
DPS Sgt. Harold Mallory joined us in the first edition with information people should be aware of before hitting the road this weekend.
1. Wear your seat belt, they save lives. Mallory says all of the DPS data points suggest that seat belts are a great way to improve your chances of surviving car accidents.
Although you can't always control what other drivers do, you can take this step to keep yourself safe on the road. Remember to always “Click on it or Ticket”.
2. Operation CARE: accident awareness and reduction efforts – More police will be on the roads this weekend looking for violations that could lead to crashes that could cause injury or even death. Mallory said these additional troopers will be looking for drivers who are driving impaired, speeding, distracted or not wearing seat belts.
3. iWatch Texas – download the app or make a report here. When you're traveling the highways, you might see some things that you're wary of, but you're not sure what's going on. Mallory used the example of potential cases of human smuggling that could be seen on the road this Memorial weekend.
Remember, this is an information line that you can also text, but it does not replace 911 emergency services. If you see an emergency, you should call the police.
You can report online via the link provided above, or over the phone by contacting 844-643-2251.
