By analyzing traveler spending and survey data from thousands of travel insurance policies purchased for trips this fall, U.S. travel insurance marketplace Squaremouth revealed how rising travel costs are affecting traveler behavior.
Link between high travel costs and travelers' concerns
More than half of travelers surveyed are spending more on travel this fall, with the average cost of a trip rising to $7,600. The average cost of an international trip, in particular, increased 38% from last year, to $8,100.
Higher travel costs can also lead to greater financial losses, leading travelers to increasingly question whether they should protect their fall travel with insurance. According to Squaremouth, 77% of travelers surveyed said they were more or as concerned about protecting their travel costs this fall than in previous years.
Affordable Fall Destinations
As travel costs continue to rise, Squaremouth data shows that travelers are actively looking for more affordable fall destinations. This year, eight of the top ten fall destinations have travel costs lower than the overall season average.
