A new indoor play park has opened in St. Petersburg. It puts kids to the test in a series of interconnected inflatables where they can climb, slide, maneuver obstacles and compete.
Catapult Adventure Park is located at 4460 66th St. N., and there are play areas for ages 3 through adults that, according to manager Rick Sandman, are “kind of like a bounce house on steroids.”
There are 20 attractions in total that are attached, so some features can be performed while racing with another player.
There already is a Catapult Adventure park at 40767 U.S. 19 in Tarpon Springs, and the company says more are planned.
“It’s a good option when the rainy season comes,” Sandman said. “And we've had an incredible number of adults come in and train using the obstacle course, or like a father and son come in here and challenge each other.”
They do birthdays and parties, Sandman said, where they provide pizza and drinks, but for now the concession stand offers candy, chips and drinks. More food will be available soon, he said. There are no plans for summer camps or after-school programs, but he said the playground will be a day trip destination for many camps this summer, such as those at local recreation centers.
Features include a giant slide, an obstacle ropes course including a zip line, a mega ball pit, a climbing wall and the Tornado Twirl featuring a rotating arm that kids must dodge or jump over to avoid to be knocked down.
It is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
It costs $29 for a 90-minute session, $33 for 120 minutes, or $39 for a day pass. Memberships cost between $20 and $30 per month or $200 to $300 per year. Members can bring a buddy for $20 for two hours. For more information, call 727-416-0400 or visit catapultadventureparkstpetersburg.com.
