Many of us will be traveling to be with loved ones as Thanksgiving approaches. Before you leave, take a few moments to make sure your vehicle is safe and ready for the trip. Check that all lights are working, your tires are properly inflated, and fluids like oil and antifreeze are topped off.
It's also a good idea to pack a few essential items just in case. Bring a fully charged cell phone, first aid kit, flashlights with extra batteries, and enough water and snacks for the trip. Keep warm blankets, extra clothing and visibility tools like warning lights or flares in your car, and don't forget a windshield scraper for those cold mornings. A little preparation can make all the difference if you encounter delays or bad weather.
Most importantly, drive safely. If you plan to drink, arrange a sober ride home. Your safety and that of our community are our top priorities.
From all of us at the Lynchburg Police Department, we wish you a Happy and Happy Thanksgiving!
