I've always loved looking for the best deals when it comes to travel.
There's something about exploring a new place on a budget that not only makes you feel content and worry-free, but also gives you the opportunity to see so much more than you otherwise would.
This is why when this study on the cheapest (and most expensive) US destinations, I went there looking for ideas on the next great place to add to my bucket list – and that's exactly what I got find.
Among the country's top 100 travel destinations analyzed, these promised the best tourist attraction – low price ratio:
Points 6 to 10
Before we move on to the top 5 or the crème de la crème as I like to call them, let's quickly review the places ranked sixth through tenth in the report; sure, they might not be the cheapest, but they're still gorgeous hubs that are definitely worth a visit:
- Monument Valley, Utah
- Bend, Oregon
- Cape Cod, Massachusetts
- Oklahoma City, OK
- City of Sedona, Arizona
Now with that said, we can dive straight into our #5 spot holder – Galtingurg, Tennessee.
5. Gatlinburg, Tennessee
Don't let Gatlinburg's modest, small mountain town facade fool you: Tennessee's gem is present at almost every site. The Best Underrated Places What to Visit in the United States This Fall, and if this trend continues as is, you'll soon have a hard time finding a hotel to book.
That's why, to get the best experience (and best deals), I recommend coming here as soon as possible.
Sydney James Mountain Lodge has rooms available starting at just $58, the Smoky Mountain Harvest Festival is just around the corner, and nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park is not only breathtaking this time of year, but its Entrance is also free!
4. Tybee Island, Georgia
If you feel like you've missed out on a relaxing beach getaway this summer, why not plan it now?
Located just a 30-minute drive from Savannah, this often-overlooked gem is actually the perfect spot for those looking to sunbathe, kayak, paddleboard, or even watch dolphins (tickets start just a 30-minute drive from Savannah ). $27.95 per adult)!
Here, you'll also find plenty of cute little restaurants serving mouth-watering dishes at unbeatable prices – I, for one, will always have a weakness for Iced coffee.
3. Helen, Georgia
This next one is for all of you who want to experience a part of Europe right here in the United States, and most importantly, on a budget.
That's exactly what you'll find in Helen, a small town in Georgia that was built to replicate a Bavarian alpine village and is, of course, home to one of the country's oldest beer festivals.
From now on until October 27the event will take place every evening, with traditional music, lively dancing, gourmet food and lots of beer.
2. Outer Banks, North Carolina
Returning to a more typical hub of the United States, the Outer Banks of North Carolina are what I would describe as a slice of coastal paradise.
Here you can spend your days hiking Jockey's Ridge State Park, exploring the Wright Brothers National Memorial, or hitting the water to kayak, paddleboard, or even surf. The best part is that renting gear is significantly cheaper now that the summer rush is over. , so if there's ever a time to try something new, it's now!
1. Charleston, West Virginia
West Virginia is quickly establishing itself as one of the nation's hippest hotspots, first by breaking its all-time tourist record and now, making its beautiful capital the number one spot as the best value destination in all of the United States – it's no wonder so many people come here!
The great thing about Charleston is that there truly is something for everyone.
Outdoor enthusiast? Not only is Coonskin Park and Kanawha State Forest great for hiking, picnicking, and everything in between, but it's also completely free to enter.
A city dweller?
The Clay Center for the Arts and Science, the West Virginia State Museum, and the Capitol Market are all must-sees.
Foodie? Don't miss the chance to try a pepperoni bun (my top recommendation would be Swiftwater Cafe).
