This morning, Lucasfilm revealed our latest look at its following Star Wars series, Skeleton crew– and if you hadn't already figured out that this was an adventure series in the vein of '80s children's films, well, this trailer Really wants you to know.
Set to one Star Wars-y cover of Major Tom by Peter Schillingof all things, the new trailer practically shouts its influences from the rooftops.
We don't get much new in terms of what Skeleton crew it will be about what we didn't already know – a motley group of childrena discovered spaceship that leads them halfway across the galaxy with no idea how to get home, with Jude Law showing up with a blaster and a dream to save them all from being immediately vaporized by the space pirates . But the new trailer goes a long a way to sell you this classic coming-of-age story, Goonies-influence that has been a touchstone for creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford since the series' announcement. Detours ensue! The chases begin! Giant strange alien creatures and sinister (but charmingly awkward-looking) space pirates glare!
It's a lot of fun to watch, but time will tell if Skeleton crew has more going on than vibes and synth soundtracks. After all, it is East takes place around the time of The Mandalorian (The Nikto pirate from season 3, Vane, is a major figure in Skeleton crewIt is cast of motley space-lubberswe know that at least), and if contemporary Star Wars likes only one thing, and that is to link all his productions together. With The Mandalorian and Grogu coming up, maybe we'll have some indicators of what's going to happen here. But maybe we just want to have a little fun as a family, and that's more Star Wars in itself.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew arrives on Disney+ on December 3.
