Demand for motorhomes is at an all-time high. These days, if you want someone to design your own custom camper, there are countless companies to choose from. One of them is Boulder Campervans.
Boulder Campervans is a specialty van conversion company based in Boulder, Colorado. I wrote about one of his projects, the Wilson Peaka few months ago and was impressed with its high-end specs.
The company recently released a brand new custom conversion named Mt. Sneffels, which I can't wait to discuss with you today. This is based on a 2023 all-wheel drive Mercedes Sprinter 170 and stands out with its luxury and adventure-ready features. Its creator describes it as “More than a campervan; it’s an off-the-grid oasis.”
The vehicle is equipped with a 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine producing 211 hp. It is associated with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, it measures 19.5 feet (5.94 meters) in length, 83 inches (211 centimeters) in width and 116 inches (295 centimeters) in height.
There are many exterior accessories on this platform. As I mentioned, it is all-wheel drive, but Boulder Campervans has gone the extra mile to ensure the rig can easily get off the beaten track. The company installed an Agile off-road suspension kit, which also helps support the extra weight of the interior.
On the roof, you'll discover an Aluminess roof rack containing 360W solar panels, StarLink mount, pod lights and a freestanding Girard awning. In addition, at the rear, there is an Aluminess ladder/spare wheel carrier. Other notable exterior touches are Aluminess side steps, a CR Lawrence window on the driver's side, and two Flarespace humps with awning windows.
Open the main door and you will be greeted by a cleverly arranged interior. Since there is no kitchen counter blocking part of the entryway, the front portion of the interior appears much more spacious. What makes the space even more open is the lack of a seating area right in front of the entrance: the customers of this van wanted to leave the space empty for their dogs to sit.
Boulder Campervans has opted for an open layout, meaning the driver's cabin is not separated from the living space. Regarding the design, there is a lot of bamboo inside. The company used bamboo for the tabletops, cabinets and ceiling, complementing the aesthetic with walls covered in a striking sage green fabric.
This van is ready for four-season adventures, as it's insulated with double-padded 3M Thinsulate in the walls and ceiling. Additionally, all windows, including those in the cabin, are equipped with mosquito nets and insulating covers.
As in most motorhomes, the driver and passenger seats can swivel to face the living space. There are also two table supports behind the seats. Another notable feature of the driver's cabin is a spacious overhead shelf.
Next we have the kitchen, which is divided into two parts. It includes an induction cooker, a deep sink with lid, two decent-sized countertops imitating white marble, a drop-down countertop extension and a small fridge/freezer.
For storage, you can use the numerous cabinets (including hanging ones) and drawers. But the biggest spot is a floor-to-ceiling cabinet with a microwave hanging above it. Additionally, one of the drawers houses a Laveo dry flush toilet.
The camper's control panel is built into a panel right next to the microwave. It consists of electronic gauges for the water tanks, a button for the heating pads covering the tanks, a switch for the StarLink, a Rixen screen controlling the heating and an EcoFlow screen which controls everything regarding electricity.
Since we're on the subject of utilities, let me tell you more about the electrical system of the Mont Sneffels van. It is equipped with a 15 kW EcoFlow system consisting of an inverter and three batteries, as well as other electrical components.
The last part of the living space is the bedroom. It is positioned so that you sleep from one side to the other, as the bumps enlarge the space. Additionally, it has two reading lights and two hanging cabinets.
The bedroom is located higher to make room for the garage below. The sides of the garage are occupied by boxes housing the utility systems. I've already told you about power. Regarding plumbing, the rig is equipped with a 20-gallon (76-liter) fresh water tank and a 15-gallon (57-liter) gray water tank.
Boulder Campervans has thought about customer safety and installed a fire extinguisher, as well as smoke, LPG and carbon dioxide detectors. Other notable features of the garage are a sliding tray, 12V, 120V and USB outlets, and L-Track rails and brackets.
Overall, Mt. Sneffels is a carefully designed, off-grid tiny home on wheels with plenty of comforts. You can bet on it to go off-road and off-grid without having to sacrifice comfort.
You're probably curious about how much it costs. Its manufacturer has not communicated an exact price. However, Motorhomes in Boulder Rig prices range between $50,000 and $75,000 (€46,858 and €70,286), while the highest price is $175,000+ (€164,000+). I am sure that Mount Sneffels is towards the end of this interval.
