Turkish Airlines-owned low-cost airline AJet is expanding its presence in south-eastern Europe by introducing services between Istanbul Sabiha Gocken Airport and Tuzla.
The new route is the airline's second in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its fifth in the former Yugoslavia.
The news comes after Pegasus Airlines, owned by Esas Holding, also announced flights between Istanbul and Tuzla, operational from August 24.
AJet will deploy its 211-seat Airbus A321neo aircraft on this route.
According to reports, AJet plans to expand its operations to Tuzla in 2025, with the introduction of seasonal summer flights from Antalya.
“The line, which will be launched during the 2025 summer season, will be maintained four times a week,” exyuaviation.com reported.
AJet currently offers flights to four destinations in the former Yugoslavia, including Sarajevo, Belgrade, Skopje and Pristina.
The arrival of AJet and Pegasus Airlines in Tuzla will provide a much-needed boost to Tuzla Airport, which welcomed 90,942 passengers in the first half of this year.
This is a 67.1% drop compared to the same period last year, after budget airline Wizz Air closed its base in the city last September.
AJet was launched by Turkish Airlines in 2008.
