This month, Dance Music Northwest is flying to Thornville, Ohio for Lost Lands 2024. But before we can enjoy a long weekend of incredible bass music from around the world, we first have to make it across the country and safely to Legend Valley. We (and many of you) know the struggles of travel, especially when it comes to camping festivals.
From packing to traveling, and of course camping itself, there is always a margin of error that can turn a great weekend into a nightmare. To help our fellow travelers on their journey to Legend Valley for Lost LandsHere are some ways to make sure you get there as easily and safely as possible.
Packaging
One of the hardest tasks when traveling to a festival abroad is packing. When flying to a festival, the key is to carefully choose what you bring in order to minimize space and maximize utility. Keep a checklist to keep track of what you need to bring versus what you want to bring. Pack the things you need first, then, if you still have room, pack everything you want.
Many of us who usually pack bulky items like toys, totems, or large speakers may need to leave them at home to make room for toiletries, clothing, and other essentials. Central Ohio can experience drastic weather changes, some in just a matter of hours. In previous years, Lost Lands has experienced torrential rain and wind, as well as scorching heat and humidity. Be sure to pack clothes for every occasion to stay comfortable throughout the week.
In case of a sudden change in weather, it’s always a good idea to take advantage of the festival’s lockers to store a change of clothes and weatherproof gear. Finally, always put luggage tags on your bags with your name and phone number in case you lose or misplace them.
Travels
Traveling can be a stressful experience, with flights to catch and business to take care of. With all these stressors, a few drinks at the airport or on the plane may seem like a great way to start a fun weekend. However, if you get drunk, you may lose track of time or even forget your belongings. Wait until you arrive at your final destination before starting the party.
For all your travel departures, arrive early. Don't leave anything to chance when it comes to catching a flight or shuttle, as it's always better to be early than late. Delays can always be managed, but missing a flight can ruin your entire trip.
Always check your essentials, including your ID, credit cards, keys, tickets, and any other items you will need to get to Lost Lands. A good practice when traveling is to not have anything in your pockets except for your phone and wallet. Keep most of your most important items in a bag or purse so you don't leave anything behind.
Long flights and queues are bad enough, so make life easier and wear loose clothing. To save space in your luggage, choose looser clothing to wear during the trip.
Camping
Getting from the airport to the festival is just as important as flying. Make sure you have arranged transportation to and from the airport and Thornville, which is about a 45-minute drive away. Whether you’re traveling with a friend, an Uber, a shuttle, or a rental car, plan your transportation in advance.
Also plan to stock up on food, water, and anything else you might need before you arrive at camp. The campgrounds are located in a rural area, so all purchases should be made before you arrive at Legend Valley. Campground amenities and general information can be found on the website Lost Lands Website.
With these tips and tricks, we hope your trip to and from Thornville, Ohio goes smoothly. So, travel light, travel safe, and we'll see you in Legend Valley for Lost Lands 2024.
