SALISBURY, Md. – It's one of the busiest times of the travel season, and BayRunner Shuttle has some tips to ensure your trip goes smoothly.
More than 300,000 people are expected to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge this Memorial Day weekend.
BayRunner Shuttle Vice President Caroline Presburg said if you have a flight to catch at BWI, using a shuttle service can help alleviate the stress of the long trip.
“We monitor our passengers' flight schedules and try to encourage them to leave early, just to give themselves time,” Presburg said. “If there’s a little setback on the bridge, we know all the contours, so we can try to avoid traffic at all costs.”
Since the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March, gephyrophobia, or fear of bridges and tunnels, has been on the rise.
And with very limited ways to get from the East Coast to the West, BayRunner shuttle driver Charlie Linton said asking someone else to drive can help ease anxiety during your busy travel season.
“In my opinion, it's very safe, as long as everyone stays in their lane and watches what they're doing,” Linton said.
“A lot of people are very skeptical and afraid to drive on it, so they often say, 'That's why we take BayRunner, because we don't want to drive on it ourselves,'” Linton added.
And if you haven't planned your ride, Linton said you should go, to make sure your weekend plans go off without a hitch.
“Especially on weekends, make sure to book your ride earlier than usual, in case there is a lot of traffic,” Linton said.
