Among individual criteria, Japan ranks second for cultural resources such as archaeological sites and entertainment facilities and fourth in the land and port infrastructure category for its road and rail networks.
Although Japan also ranks high in the non-leisure resources category due to its high number of large companies and prestigious universities, it scores relatively poorly in terms of price competitiveness, tourism services and infrastructure indicators.
In the general ranking, which evaluated 119 countries and regions, France came in fourth place, followed by Australia in fifth place. Among other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, China ranks eighth, Singapore 13th and South Korea 14th.
