A popular program used by patrons at 80 Iowa libraries is temporarily suspended starting January 1.
The Iowa Adventure Pass gives library cardholders free admission to all kinds of attractions throughout the state, like museums and zoos.
The program launched in 2017 at the Grimes Public Library, where Assistant Director Karalee Kerr said the program's software would shut down library operations across the country at the end of the year.
“It's been very, very popular, so we were a little surprised to receive notification that the software company wasn't going to continue,” says Kerr, “but there was never any doubt that we would look ways to continue.”
Kerr says the Massachusetts-based provider that facilitates the service will close at the end of the month.
“I think there will be a short period where we won't have any passes available,” she said, “but I'm hoping that very soon, after the new year, we can reopen it for people can start taking trips. reservations. »
Grimes is looking for a new vendor to facilitate the program and hopes to bring back the Iowa Adventure Pass sometime in 2025.
