- I am a travel plannerand there are so many US destinations that my clients are loving right now.
- Milkwakee is one of my Favorite Places in the Midwestand Newport is a great trip on the East Coast.
As a travel planner, I book a fair share of trips to national parks and Disney Vacationsbut my clients have also enjoyed some lesser-known American destinations.
If you're looking for a more low-key place for a family trip or romantic getaway, the United States is full of discreet cities to choose.
Here are some of my current favorites.
Milwaukee is a gem of the Midwest.

The city in Wisconsin is located on The West Shore of Lake Michiganless than two hours from Chicago.
For outdoor enthusiasts, you can head to Bradford Beach or hike and bike at Lakeshore State Park. If you like beer, visit some local breweries — Urban Harvest, Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee Brewing Co. — and sample their wares.
Baseball fans can even spend a day attending a Brewers game at American Family Field.
Milwaukee has a vast art museum and a spectacular zoo. The greenhouses at Mitchell Domes Park are also home to beautiful flowers and plants.
Head west to discover glorious Sedona.

Located about two hours from Phoenix, Sedona is a nature lover's paradise.
The region's magnificent red rocks offer countless hiking possibilitiesincluding tackling Bell Rock Butte. For more active adventures, there are great spots for kayaking and mountain biking, or you can head to one of the otherworldly vortexes (energy hotspots) that Sedona is known for.
The natural waterslide at Slide Rock State Park is a unique attraction in Arizona, and Oak Creek is a beautiful place for swimmingIf you're really brave, you can book a Pink Jeep Tour to see more of the breathtaking sights nearby while hanging from the cliffs.
The Chapel of the Holy Cross is always at the top of my list, followed by a Wild West wagon dinner at Blazin' M Ranch. Downtown Sedona is also full of shops and restaurants, including the famous Cowboy Club.
San Juan is a tropical destination that does not require a passport.

San Juan is a great mix of beach fun and historical sightseeing. Plus, Puerto Rico It is a US territory, US citizens do not need a passport to visit it.
Visiting Old San Juan is like taking a trip back in time. I suggest booking a tour that will take you to the Capilla del Cristo, the Santa María Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery, and the San Juan Cathedral.
Stay at one of the best beachfront locations, like the Hilton El Conquistador Resort. And if you're looking for thrills, book a snorkeling excursion to Icacos Island, hiking through the rainforests to look for waterfalls or find a place to zipline.
My favorite, must-do experience is kayaking to Laguna Grande at night to see spectacular bioluminescent water.
Savannah offers countless opportunities for entertainment, dining and relaxation.

The best time to visit Savannah, GeorgiaIt is in spring or fall, when the weather is milder.
Take time to stroll the shops of River Street or take one of the city's famous ghost tours – Savannah is considered one of the America's Most Haunted CitiesOne of my favorite ways to see the city is by taking a riverboat cruise and, if you have time, taking a day trip to charming Tybee Island.
History and architecture buffs should also explore the Olde Pink House, Forsyth Park and the magnificent homes on Jones Street.
Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room, which serves Southern specialties, is the best place to have lunch, then stroll along the river for a feast or a drink.
Newport is an East Coast delight.

Newport, Rhode Islandis a blend of natural beauty, history and stunning architecture — be sure to visit some of the city's historic mansions.
I highly recommend renting a car and driving along the beautiful coastal route of Ocean Drive. But the city also offers trolley tours if you want to stick to the inland sights.
You can also admire the views from the 3.5-mile Newport Cliff Walk or book a thrilling railbike tour.
The city has many great restaurants, including The Mooring and Bar 'Cino. But if you can't decide, just book a food tour. There are also a number of nearby wineries and breweries to check out, including Newport Vineyard and Greenvale.
