Baby boomers, many of whom are retired, are flocking to affordable places around the world. After all, when you're living on a fixed income and need to limit your spending, it helps to have destinations that suit your needs. budget.
GOBankingRates asked Mercedes Zach, travel expert at Tickets as soon as possiblepart of Trévolution Groupabout the direction baby boomers are heading these days. Here are the three cheap destinations for baby boomers who made Zach's list.
Vietnam
Vietnam is one of the most developed tourist spots in Asia and its tropical monsoon climate makes it an ideal destination for most of the year, according to Zach.
“Vietnam is known for its good value accommodation, from family-run guesthouses and remote resorts to budget hostels and more upscale hotels in the big cities, from only $35 a night,” Zach said. “Not to mention his very affordable local food scene starting at $1 per meal, making it a very economical choice for baby boomers who want to explore Asia without breaking the bank.
Additionally, there is a wide range of places to stay and visit. “From the bustling cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to the beautiful natural landscapes of Hạ Long Bay, there is something for everyone and every budget,” said Zach.
Albania
Zach said Albania is another vacation destination that baby boomers are loving lately, especially in the summer.
“With its untouched natural beauty, stunning mountain landscapes, spectacular ancient castles and picturesque beaches, it can easily compete with the Mediterranean without the tourist crowds and high costs,” Zach said.
Its affordable price makes it an attractive option for baby boomers. “Albania is one of the few destinations that offers a cost-effective lifestyle without compromising quality,” said Zach. “Prices are significantly lower than many European countries, so baby boomers on a budget can spend more money while exploring this beautiful country.”
Oxnard, California
Really, according to Zach, all the beach towns on America's west coast are great choices for retirees, but Oxnard stands out above the rest.
“For those looking for a relaxing indoor getaway, West Coast beach towns that offer much more than sun and sea have been a popular choice among baby boomers, with Oxnard as the top choice,” Zach said.
Be careful when traveling here though. “It’s an idyllic spot on the Southern California coast that attracts visitors year-round, but it can be very crowded and overpriced in the summer,” Zach explained. “As a result, the offseason has become the busiest time for retirees to experience the authentic Oxnard vibe on a budget.”
And there are plenty of destinations and activities to explore, making it a great place. “Whether you dine and shop downtown or explore the breathtaking coastline or one of the many maritime museums, Oxnard is an enchanting yet reasonably priced waterfront destination to add to your list things to do in the fall,” Zach said. “Compared to other California beach towns, it offers a lower cost of living, making it an attractive vacation spot for baby boomers on a fixed travel budget. Everything from restaurants to entertainment is more affordable, especially in the off-season, without compromising quality.
