Concerts, a visiting kingand public art displays kept the state's largest city outside the Chicago area in a state of festivities. To the delight of the locals, a 10-mile paved trail was also revealed.
THE Cycle path Part of the trail is perfect for running, hiking, biking, or picnicking, and although it is several miles long, it can be completed in about two hours. As the name suggests, the trail follows part of the Rock River and the views are absolutely phenomenal.
During your hike, you'll pass Sinnissippi Park and Golf Course, Shorewood Park, Martin Park, and the Winnebago County Forest Preserve. With so much greenery along the route, this hike is absolutely enchanting in the fall.

Various points on the trail border the river, providing panoramic views to soak in the beauty of the natural landscape.
The path will also take you beyond the Rockmen Guardiansa bizarre art installation of rock sentinels watching over the city. These strange giant stone men were installed in the late 1980s and have been delighting visitors ever since. As the landscape changes from fall foliage to a blanket of snow, they appear even more brilliantly.
