International destinations can be daunting, but road trips across the United States can feel just as unique, from New England to the coast of Alaska.
That's according to a Florida-based company. Rob Taylor, Road Trip Expertwho has traveled to 48 states. Over the past 13 years, he and his husband, Chris, have driven their two children to 30 states.
“The United States is so vast, and there’s such a diversity of experiences, activities, landscapes, cuisines, and cultures from one corner of the country to the other,” he told Business Insider. “We’re making progress. One day, we’ll visit them all.”
Concerning family road tripsTaylor is looking for lesser known destinations where children can learn something new.
“A lot of our travel is focused on education and we don’t just go to theme parks,” he said. “We do programs with rangers and educators.”
Typically, Taylor takes the kids out of school three to four times a year, for up to two weeks. He adds that the educational factor encourages teachers to be more supportive of their trips during the school year.
“That’s why we have no problem taking them out of school as much as we do,” Taylor said. “We’ve never had a complaint about missing too much school.”
Taylor shared with BI her favorite hidden gem road trip stops across the United States for families — and some are in popular states you might not expect.
