My favorite type of vacation is one beach vacation. I just had a stay here at Malibu this weekend actually. I feel like it always refreshes and relaxes me, and it was so much fun being with my baby by the beach.
I traveled with (my son) Halo A little. I think about where he wants to go, for sure, but at this point in his life he's just happy to go anywhere. These are all new experiences. It's really beautiful to see him see things for the first time.
When I travel for myself, I travel to relax. Most of the time I travel for work, so when I'm on a business trip, I try to find small blocks of time for a massage here and there, between interviews or performances. But when I leave, it's just to relax. I love the Maldives. I went to Saint Lucia for my birthday in march. I always love going there, it’s so special and beautiful.
In the past, when it came to planning a trip, I was like, “Yeah, I'm going tomorrow, I just got the ticket, I'm going, bye!” But now I'm a planner. I am much better at organization. And I like group trips. My favorite traveling companion is without a doubt my sister Chloé. I like going places with my siblings. They're just my best friends. We're having the best time, and especially now with Halo, it's like a whole different adventure.
Group travel is so much fun, especially planning the trip out of the group chat and into the world. But it can be difficult. It usually takes one of us to say, “Okay, I got this ticket. Good morning! Everyone take a screenshot of the ticket You I received it and am sending it. Because people flake, and then they're like, “Oh, I can't, I have to wait for this, or I have to wait for that.” And it's like, come on now, let's put it together.
Rapid fire
Window seat, middle seat or aisle seat?
Window! I like to look outside. I also like having something to rest my head on, with my hood up. You just feel like you're in your own little bubble by the window.
Traveling light or overpacking?
I'm packing too much. But it’s practical! Because I'm always like, “Oh, if we're going to dinner, I'm going to need this dress and I might want to change.” And if we go to the beach, I'll need another outfit after that. So I just bring whatever I can, and then I have options.
Your favorite way to pass time on a plane?
Sleep. I love sleeping on a plane. I'm very good at sleeping anywhere. It's like a hidden talent: I can sit down and fall asleep anywhere. It makes me happy to take little cat naps at any time of the day.
Biggest fear of traveling?
My biggest fear when traveling is leaving something really important behind. Leaving your keys or your passport on a plane Really it scares me.
The best advice to combat jet lag?
Do your best to get used to the time zone you are in. Try to stay awake the night before if you have to, or take melatonin on the plane. Do what you have to do so that when you get there, you are on their time.
Favorite travel snack?
I'm really obsessed with bananas. I think it's because my baby likes bananas, so we eat them together.
Ordering a drink on a plane?
Oooh, ginger ale. I love drinking ginger ale or apple juice. Apple juice was a huge pregnancy craving for me. And now that I'm not pregnant, I still really want it.
