Long before camping in desolate, off-grid extremes in a small trailer was a viral media sensation, SylvanSport formed to create what remains one of the market leaders. the simplest and most unique small trailer choice. The company is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and, to properly celebrate its still original transport gear camping caravan, it has rolled out a robust all-terrain variant. Beyond a completely devilish aesthetic, the all-new GOAT features a fully rugged construction, ready to take on whatever the bumpy, dusty trails throw at it.
We're not sure we'd pit the 4m GOAT (i.e. GO All-Terrain) against the Australian rival. the most robust caravans, but it definitely improves things compared to SylvanSport other models. It gains extra grip from the Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires perfectly beaded to the Vision steel wheels. These wheels are cushioned by a new Timbren HD axleless suspension, designed for better shock absorption off-road.
The new undercarriage increases ground clearance to 18 inches (46 cm) from the 13 inches (33 cm) offered by the original GO with its underbody spare wheel removed. It also improves the departure angle to 42 degrees. Buyers can add an optional articulating coupler for smoother movement.
The GOAT also benefits from a bed box reinforced with a 4 x 7 ft (1.2 x 2.1 m) diamond floor and aluminum side panels ready for equipment mounting. SylvanSport plans to offer side mounting hardware for equipment such as the Rotopax canisters shown, pull-up boards and propane cylinders.
Beyond these new additions, the GOAT follows the same GO formula that has kept the lights on at SylvanSport's North Carolina headquarters for two decades. An aluminum chassis and exoskeleton keeps the trailer's base weight at 1,200 lbs (544 kg), making it easy to find a ready-to-use tow vehicle, whether it's a small crossover or a full-fledged rugged pickup.
The aluminum exo-frame is the true centerpiece of the GOAT's versatility and low center of gravity, serving as a base support for bikes, kayaks, paddleboards and other adrenaline tools. It also mounts when needed, creating a toy transport cage for larger equipment like an ATV or motorcycles. The GOAT has a payload of 950 lb (431 kg).
“The GO All-Terrain has undergone extensive off-road testing and performs just as exceptionally on-road as it does on the road,” says Brandon Miller, the chief engineer behind the GOAT. “The utility aspect of this trailer is unmatched as it is capable of hauling motorcycles, ATVs, landscaping materials, building materials or anything you might use a utility trailer for.”
The plastic front storage box and fenders may give some skated off-roaders pause, but this is the same type of rotomolded poly-composite you see in grizzly bear fighting. coolersunsinkable watercraft … and that adorable beast of a mobile South African safari shelter.
At camp, the aluminum exoskeleton rises even higher than in toy hauler form, serving as a frame for the deployable tent that extends from the sandwich panel roof to create a four-berth, soft-sided campervan. The two upper side frames fold down to create sleeping platforms for the two 34 x 80 in (86 x 203 cm) beds. Campers can also combine the beds into a huge 116 x 80 inch (295 x 203 cm) super-king.
The central floor area provides 6.4 feet (2 m) of clear space for comfortable standing and dressing, and a removable table creates a dining area, using the two beds as facing seating. There are no kitchen or bathroom facilities in the simple tent trailer, but in gear hauling mode the trailer has plenty of space for additional gear. SylvanSport offers a self-contained outdoor kitchen unit and also plans to offer a swing-out tailgate with drop-down kitchen and an “Off-grid” add-on package including the self-contained kitchen, private tent, portable toilet, Yakima RoadShower and a few. other practical accessories.
SylvanSport launched the GOAT on Thursday and offers it in three different versions. The most basic camper variant will set you back $18,495, while the mid-level “BIG” package adds some of the extras shown in the photos, including a full-size spare wheel/tire and rack, awning and mattresses. It costs $19,995. The $21,995 premium “All Out” package includes everything BIG, plus the self-contained outdoor kitchen, screen room, solar kit and a few other extras.
The video below provides an introduction and gives a better idea of how the tent is set up. At the time of publication, we had to fast forward three minutes to skip the pre-show countdown screen (even though live goats are cute). Maybe they'll change it by the time you view it, or maybe you'll have to make the same jump.
