GWINN — The Girl Scouts of the Great Lakes Northwest recently held a free demonstration of their Adventures on the Go mobile unit at the Up North Lodge in Gwinn.
Adventures on the Go is a program where Girl Scouts who are council members can use outdoor gear for adventures they can’t afford or access. An outdoor program leader can take Scouts on one- to two-hour outings to outdoor activities booked by interested troop leaders. Activities offered through the program include archery, orienteering, snowshoeing, paddleboarding and campfire cooking.
Attendees at Sunday's event were able to learn archery and tour the unit using an I-Spy game in addition to enjoying Girl Scout cookies and other activities led by program manager Bethany McAnally.
“We have been on tour all summer, bringing outdoor gear and experiences to children and community leaders throughout Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and northwest Wisconsin. We look forward to engaging our troops and community in Gwinn,” said Kate Corey, GSNWGL's director of development, in an email to Mining Journal.
