Fresno, California (May 22, 2024)– Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) is expecting a busy travel weekend for the Memorial Day holiday. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) plans to screen more than 25,000 passengers departing FAT from Thursday, May 23 through Tuesday, May 28.
The busiest day expected at FAT is Friday, May 24, when more than 4,200 travelers are expected to be screened at the security checkpoint. Thursday, May 23 will also be busy as TSA plans to screen more than 3,900 people.
Record passenger volumes are expected nationwide for this summer's tourism season, including at FAT.
During the busy Memorial Day weekend and summer season, FAT offers these tips to help passengers on their journey:
Arrive early
Passengers are strongly encouraged to arrive early at the airport up to two hours before the departure of domestic flights and up to three hours before international flights.
Prepare for the TSA security check
Pack smartly by starting with empty bags. By packing for their trip with empty bags, passengers are less likely to bring prohibited items through a TSA checkpoint. Check for prohibited items using the “What can I bring? ” page on TSA.gov .
Examining ASD Rule 3-1-1 regarding liquids for liquids, gels and aerosols in hand luggage.
Electronic devices such as cell phones, laptops or game consoles and other personal valuables should be placed in your personal item or carry-on baggage, not your checked baggage.
Passengers requiring additional assistance during the security screening process are encouraged to contact The TSA cares.
Be prepared for any scenario. Have your photo ID and boarding pass ready in case you are asked for them unexpectedly. This will avoid slowing down the selection process.
Monitor airline flight status
Download airline apps to receive real-time updates such as flight status, boarding times, gate numbers and any other important announcements.
Travelers are advised to contact their airline immediately if their flight has been impacted.
Medicines must be kept on the person in case of delayed check-in or hand baggage checked at the boarding gate.
Plan parking, ground transportation, and passenger pickup
Parking is in high demand during peak periods. Keep alternate parking in mind in case your first choice is no longer available when you arrive.
The carpool drop-off and pick-up area, Fresno Area Express (FAX) and V-Line are located in front of the terminal departures curb on the central reservation.
The taxi service is located opposite the baggage claim gates in the central reservation.
A free cell phone waiting area is conveniently located near the terminal to accommodate friends and family picking up arriving passengers. Drivers must stay with their vehicle.
