If you're starting to plan a vacation for next year, one Florida island made Forbes' list of top travel destinations in 2025.
I've just returned from Mexico, my last trip of 2024 and I'm already starting to plan my trip for next year. This year I visited 2 countries for the first time: the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic, so next year I hope to visit at least 2, maybe 3 new places. I have my favorites, like Mexico, which I return to again and again, but there's nothing like exploring a new place and taking it all in. And even though I'm focusing more on international travel right now, there are so many great destinations in the States that would make a great getaway.
In fact, a Florida island just a few hours from us in southwest Florida made Forbes' list of top travel destinations in 2025.
Florida Island Makes Forbes List of Best Travel Destinations in 2025
Forbes just released its list of the top 12 destinations for 2025, which includes places from all over the world, and a Florida island made its list.
Longboat Key is an island located right between Sarasota and Anna Maria Island and one of my favorite islands in the area. When I first moved to Florida in 2019, I lived in Sarasotaand discovered Longboat Key almost immediately. There is a somewhat hidden beach access next to a small motel where I could always find a place and I would have the beach almost to myself. The water there is an incredible blue color with beautiful white crystallized sugar.
It's quiet there with amazing hotels, motels and restaurants. In fact, one of those restaurants, Dry Dock Waterfront Grill, just made OpenTable's list of America's 100 Best Restaurants for 2024. And also not far from Sarasota's St. Armands Circle if you want even more food, drink and shopping options. Forbes lists the brand new St. Regis as a recommended place to stay.
Other places in the United States that made this list include New Orleans, Asheville, and Santa Monica. You can view their full list here
