YAKIMA, Wash.-Looking to go out for a fun, family-friendly activity after Christmas? Yakima Parks and Recreation is planning a family winter hiking adventure on December 28th.
“This family winter hiking adventure is a fantastic opportunity for families to bond, learn and experience the great outdoors together,” said Parks and Recreation Director Ken Wilkinson.
Pre-registration for the hike which will begin in front of the City of Yakima Public Works Building at 2301 Fruitvale Boulevard at 9:30 a.m. is mandatory.
According to a Yakima City press release, the hike will feature eight stations on topics including hiking apps, hiking essentials, hiking in groups, hiking with dogs, the dangers of hiking and more.
After meeting at the public works building, hikers will carpool to a trailhead for a one- to three-mile hike classified as beginner and family-friendly, according to the city of Yakima.
The cost of the hike is $5 per hiker and pets are welcome.
Hikers are asked to bring the following items.
- Comfortable clothing and shoes adapted to the weather conditions
- Snacks and water

“Whether you are a seasoned hiker or a beginner, this program promises fun, education and memories that will last a lifetime,” Wilkinson said.
