Meet the permanent residents of the Old Town
There are a handful of convenient, must-see stops symbolizing American freedom within this square mile. The first stop is Independence National Historical Park where you can marvel at the Liberty Bell, site of the President's House, then explore Independence Hall just across the street.
While delving into the nation's past, take a leisurely stroll through the cobblestone streets of Elfreth's Alleythe oldest residential street in America. Admire the well-preserved 18th-century houses and soak up the ambiance of this quaint and quaint neighborhood.
No trip to Old City Philadelphia would be complete without a visit to the iconic Betsy Ross House. It was here that the first American flag was sewn. Come inside to talk with a Betsy re-enactor about the history of the flag and explore her 1740s home.

Visitors step back in time at many of the city's excellent museums, like the Museum of the American Revolution, Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish HistoryTHE African American Museumand of course, the Benjamin Franklin Museum. Dinner in the historic bookbinder’s building
After a day of exploring, satisfy your cravings at one of Philadelphia's renowned restaurants. The old barlocated in the original bookbinder's building, is steeped in the city's history. In the late 1800s, the building was home to one of Philadelphia's most popular spots, Bookbinder's Restaurant. Conveniently located next to the harbor, it was famous for the freshest seafood, coldest beer and best company in town. Bookbinder's Restaurant was passed down from generation to generation and remained busy until its closure in 2009.
Reorganized and renamed, The Olde Bar is charting a new path. Jose Garces, owner of Olde Bar and popular Philadelphia restaurateur, said, “We pay homage to the original traditions that made Bookbinder's a Philadelphia landmark. It’s an important responsibility to live up to the history of the building and the expectations for the space. We will do our best to recreate the nostalgia of this place and time, but with our own twist. Guests love the fresh seafood and great happy hour specials at this contemporary lounge.
