CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Summer is just around the corner and for those planning a vacation, they're probably trying to decide the best time to travel and how to do it on a budget.
To alleviate some of the stress of planning, there are three easy ways to live the vacation life, without blowing the budget.
- Start planning as soon as possible. It's never too early to start monitoring flight prices. Tools like Google Flights and Hopper's Watch This Trip are easy ways to set up automatic monitoring. Experts advise that for trips abroad, consider booking between three and six months in advance of the planned travel date to benefit from the best prices. If you're staying closer to home, start watching now, and most experts advise booking one to two months in advance of your planned travel date.
- Consider hotel options that bundle your offerings. All-inclusive hotels can help you save money. Although the initial cost may seem high, when it includes food, drinks, and on-property excursions, it's often a good deal. If you're not staying at an all-inclusive resort, experts say to consider things like booking a hotel with breakfast built into the rate. According to KAYAK, nationally, hotel rates are down 7%. Internationally, they are up 2%.
- Be flexible and willing to book off the beaten path. According to Google Flights, the most popular destinations this summer are cities like London and Paris. Experts suggest stepping out of the comfort zone and exploring a lesser-known destination. Travel agents can help, or information can be found online through blogs and reviews.
Another travel recommendation suggested by experts is to avoid checking a bag. Airline delays and cancellations can create problems with luggage, so those who can travel light should do so.
