The shoulder season of late summer or early fall might be a good time to take a trip that won't break the bank.
CHARLOTTE, NC — If you missed out on a summer getaway because of expensive plane ticketIt might be a good time to take advantage of last-minute deals or consider an early fall vacation.
Kyle Maltz, a travel expert from Dollar Flight Clubtold WCNC Charlotte that there are a lot of ways people can save when booking a flight to end the summer. Unlike a traditional travel agency, Maltz said Dollar Flight Club searches for deeply discounted flights and then notifies customers of the best deals.
“We constantly monitor flights departing from our customers’ airports,” he said. “We analyze this data and alert you when we find flights that are below the standard average airfare.”
With summer coming to a close, Maltz said the shoulder season, the period between peak and off-peak seasons, is as good a time as any to travel.
“A lot of travel happens in the summer when kids are out of school,” Maltz says. “During that transition period, when demand starts to drop off and supply starts to pick up, you’ll see a lot better deals to be had because companies want to fill that inventory and reserve it for customers.”
There are plenty of opportunities to score a bargain if you're looking to head to a tropical destination. For example, you can save up to 60 percent on the average price of a flight to Turks and Caicos. If you're looking to head to Europe, Maltz said the best deals are to London, Oslo and Paris.
“It's a top priority for the Olympics,” he said.
Once you've booked your flight, Maltz suggests staying in one place to maximize your budget. Find a Airbnbfor example, can help customers qualify for extended stay discounts.
Centralizing your travel can also save you money on other things, including meals, since you can also cook some of your meals yourself instead of eating out every day.
