Searches for summer travel have been on the rise since last year, according to Expedia data, with major cities like London and New York topping the list of requests, alongside beach destinations like Cancun and Honolulu. Searches for Paris and surrounding areas are up more than 200% as travelers look forward to this summer's Olympics. These numbers could also put you at risk of skyrocketing flight prices, but luckily Expedia has shared some crucial tips to ensure you get the best deal when making your summer travel plans. Say hello to Expedia's Summer Travel Cheat Sheet.
Pre-planning is the first crucial tip. Make sure to book your summer flights 21 to 60 days in advance and you can save 15%. The day of your flight is also important: to save the most, travel on a Tuesday for domestic destinations and a Monday for international destinations. Skip traveling for the week of July 4 in favor of a trip in late August to save up to $140. Are you worried that cancellations will disrupt your plans? Early flights (before 3 p.m.) are less likely to be canceled. Finally, Expedia recommends bundling flights, hotels, and car rentals through its platform to save hundreds.
“The perfect time to book your summer trip is fast approaching, but there's still some time to plan your vacation plans and book those flights at a great rate,” says Melanie Fish, public relations manager for Expedia Group brands. . “This year, the cheat sheet is simple: Book one to two months and save around 15%, whether you take the family to the beach in Florida or spend the summer in Paris.”
