Disney is preparing to launch another musical revue in one of its theme parks this summer. But this time, Disney is offering a new twist on its musical formula.
The adventure of rhythm will debut on June 3 on the Storyhouse stage of Adventure Isle in Shanghai Disneyland. This musical will feature “a team of archaeologists specializing in musical research” as an excuse to program stage performances of tunes from a variety of Disney animated films. The show will illustrate five musical styles through these performances, according to the park: “regional, big band, hip hop, Latin jazz and pop music.”
The twist? Each of the five musical styles will present one of two possible “musical adventures”. This means potentially different character and song lineups each time you watch the show. Songs on the menu will include tunes from Disney's Aladdin, The Aristocats, The Lion King, Moana, Mulan, Pinocchio, Wreck-It Ralph and Pixar's Turning Red.

This new release should make The Adventure of Rhythm a more attractive option for repeat visitors during its limited summer release. But it does confirm what many Disney cynics have suggested before: that these “cruise ship revue” type musical shows are just formulaic and that you can substitute any number of other songs at every location without really change the tone or direction of the music. the production.
But then what? This is a collection of beloved Disney songs, with a chance to see their characters on stage. This is the formula that works for almost every Disney fan.
Rhythm Adventure will run until October 7 this year at Shanghai Disneyland. For park tickets, please go to our partner Shanghai Disneyland Tickets page.
