BEAUFORT, Carteret County — People across the country watched the eclipse in different ways, and many boats were on the water this afternoon. We took a boat trip to see the eclipse, a unique opportunity.
Ron and Kathy Johnson lead 'Capt. Visit Ron's Island from Beaufort.
Elena Kennedy and her family wanted to come and book the tour this morning, but Captain Johnson's boat was already full. Kathy Johnson, however, had a better idea.
When we called Captain Ron, Kathy suggested we do it during the eclipse. This hadn't occurred to us before and we thought it would be a really interesting addition to what we were already seeing.
It's one thing to see an eclipse, but it's another to see wildlife at the same time. The tour group saw a pod of dolphins and several groups of wild horses.
We saw a decent sized pod of dolphins, we saw about three different pods of horses – and it was really cool with the eclipse because as we went along we just glanced at each other. 'eye at different points in time and see a slightly larger bite removed from the sun.
Even though we weren't in the path of totality, it seemed like the temperature was getting a little darker during the peak of the eclipse, and it was also getting colder.
“It's amazing how it works and what's happening. To me it was kind of like maybe a storm was coming,” said Captain Ron Johnson. “
