(InvestigateTV) — Around 91% of people planning a summer vacation are looking for ways to save on their travelaccording to a new survey carried out by Nerd Wallet.
Cherry Dale with the Virginia Credit Union said there are many ways to save on travel.
“Where are you going? How are you traveling? How are you going to get there? It might be cheaper to drive than to fly, although flying would be faster,” Dale said. “So you estimate the cost opportunity of all these decisions Ultimately, you have to keep this budget in mind.
She suggested using third-party search services like Price line Or Expediato map potential costs and find the best deals.
Dale also advised travelers to create a realistic travel budget and start putting money aside from every paycheck.
“There are costs that add up every day that sometimes we don't budget for, and that also need to be kept in mind on a per-person basis,” Dale noted. “So, how many people are you taking?” How many do you feed? And what are the needs of each vacationer? Because it's going to be different. Some people may want to go on expensive excursions, while others on vacation just want to stay in a hotel and relax.
She advised people to carry multiple payment methods while traveling and to alert your travel credit company in advance.
Dale also recommended people avoid tourist traps and learn from the locals. Locals can share restaurants they like that may be cheaper than famous restaurants in the area.
