With approximately 165,000 people traveling through the Boise Airport during the holidays, it is important to stay informed about airport operations.
BOISE, Idaho — Thanksgiving is traditionally one of busiest travel periods of each year. 2024 is shaping up to be a record year, with nearly 165,000 passengers expected by Boise Airport (BOI) during the Thanksgiving holiday.
According to the Boise Airport, the 10 days surrounding Thanksgiving, November 21 to December 1, will be busy at BOI.
If you're planning to fly during the holiday season, check out these tips from BOI:
The airport will be busy:
- Projections estimate that the busiest travel days will be Tuesday, November 26 and Wednesday, November 27 before the holiday, and Sunday, December 1 after the holiday. Projections estimate that the busiest times for travel will be 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. to noon.
The parking lot waiting for mobile phones has moved:
- The cell phone parking lot has moved, after a larger car park with dedicated parking opened earlier this year. It's about a 5- to 7-minute drive from the terminal, the Boise airport said. The new cell phone batch is adjacent to the economy batch and is three times larger than the previous cell phone batch.
BOI has provided some tips on how to park at the airport. Parking may reach capacity during this travel period, so be prepared.
It is generally recommended for all air travel, but arriving two hours early can help you get to your gate on time. Normally at BOI, travelers can get through security relatively quickly, but the holiday season can impact this. Don't forget to factor parking and other travel into your two-hour arrival plan.
TSA-approved foods may be allowed through airport security, but it's important to check what's eligible. Items commonly confiscated at TSA checkpoints include jams and jellies, cranberry sauce, gravy, bottles of wine and other Thanksgiving treats, the BOI said. Knives and firearms are not permitted and must be left at home.
